Team Hayes Looking For Black Type With Aysar

It’s early July but there’s a whiff of spring in the air at Caulfield with the first Group race held in Melbourne since Easter with the running of the Group Three Sir John Monash Stakes (1100 metres).

There’s a bit at stake for the connections of the Ben and J.D. Hayes trained four-year-old stallion Aysar who is still searching for his first Group win.

The son of Deep Field, who finished second in the 2020 Caulfield Guineas was purchased by Leneva Park almost a year ago and in that time he’s run some excellent races at Group One level without winning.

A recent impressive Flemington jump-out win suggests Team Hayes has him primed to run a huge race on Saturday and secure an important win for the son of Deep Field.

He will face stern opposition though in Peter Moody’s lightly raced four-year-old son of Exceed And Excel, Oxley Road who is already a Group 2 winner and an Oakleigh Plate placegetter at the track.

Moody has remarked this week that Oxley Road has transformed from a boy into a man this campaign.

Oxley Road and Phillip Stokes first-up specialist Mileva have both been performing well in Pakenham jump-outs.

The most interest though at Caulfield will settle on the performance of Inundation who has created a huge impression winning his past three starts easily who is odds on favourite to win the 1100 metres for three-year-old colts and geldings.

At his last start at Caulfield he sizzled around the 1000 metres to win, easing up by three lengths to make it three consecutive wins since he finished second at his debut.

The son of Headwater will again be ridden by Jye McNeil, who is a clear leader in the Melbourne Jockeys’ Premiership and is one of a couple of the leading riders who will be in action at Caulfield with several on holidays.

Inundation is another promising member of the Mick Price and Michael Kent junior team who have a powerful team heading towards spring.

They are headed by I’m Thunderstruck, Lombardo, Ayrton, Illation and recent stable addition Chaillot.
