The Phoenix Suns beat the Sacramento Kings 119-117 at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday. However, the story of this game was the miraculous comeback. With eight minutes and 22 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the Suns were trailing the Kings 109-87 when Kings point guard De’Aaron Fox of New Orleans, Louisiana made a 22-foot three-point jump shot. That is when the Suns went on an amazing 32-10 run to close out the game. As a result, the Suns are only the second team in the last quarter of a century to come back to win a NBA game, when they were trailing by 20 points or more with eight minutes left according to Sam Quinn of CBS Sports.
The only other team to accomplish the feat ironically were the Kings. Down 108-86 to the Minnesota Timberwolves with six minutes and 20 seconds left in the fourth quarter on January 27, 2020, the Kings came back to beat the Timberwolves 133-129 in overtime. The fact that Sacramento scored 47 points in a span of 11 minutes and 20 seconds was stunning.
In Wednesday night’s win, the Suns tied the game at 115 on an Eric Gordon three-point shot with 45 seconds left. They then received four successfully made free throws from Kevin Durant in the final 29 seconds.
Six Suns reached double digits in points. Grayson Allen of Jacksonville, Florida led the way with 29 points. Kevin Durant of Washington D.C. had 27 points, Devin Booker of Grand Rapids, Michigan had the double-double (16 points and 11 rebounds), Eric Gordon of Indianapolis, Indiana and Bradley Beal of St. Louis, Missouri had 13 points each, and Jusuf Nurkic of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina had 10 points. Like Booker, Nurkic had the double-double as he had 10 points and 15 rebounds.
With the win, the Suns improve to a record of 22 wins and 18 losses. They are in eighth place in the Western Conference.
