Steelers to make a change at quarterback for Week 5
October 6, 2022
Heading into the fifth week of the season, the Pittsburgh Steelers have decided to make a change at quarterback. They have decided to go with rookie Kenny Pickett, and bench Mitch Trubisky, who the Steelers signed in the off-season from the Buffalo Bills according to Liz Roscher of Yahoo! Sports.
Pickett was the Steelers’s first round pick, 20th overall in the 2022 National Football League Draft. He has strong connections to the Pittsburgh football community as he attended the University of Pittsburgh.
A native of Oakhurst, New Jersey, Pickett has earned the trust of Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin despite the fact he had three interceptions this past Sunday in a 24-20 Steelers loss to the New York Jets. The reason why Pickett has gained interest from the Steelers coaching staff to start was because of his strong mobility when it came to running the football. In six carries, he had two touchdowns.

Still, anticipate a time of transition for Pickett in Pittsburgh. Expectations for the Steelers this season are rather low. They were projected to finish dead last in the AFC North to start the year.
Meanwhile, Pickett may not be the only rookie starting quarterback in week five. The New England Patriots are projected to start Bailey Zappe of Victoria, Texas on Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Mac Jones is out with an ankle ailment, and Brian Hoyer suffered a head injury on Sunday in Green Bay. In the Patriots’s 27-24 loss to the Packers, Zappe became the first rookie quarterback to throw a NFL touchdown this season when he connected with DeVante Parker on a 25-yard pass play.
