Seahawks reassign head coach Pete Carroll
January 11, 2024

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk on Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks have decided to reassign head coach Pete Carroll. He will be an advisor for the Seahawks next season, rather than on the sidelines.
Carroll is 72 years of age, and had been the oldest coach in the National Football League since 2016. He had been a head coach in the NFL for 18 seasons. Carroll was initially with the New York Jets in 1994, the New England Patriots from 1997 to 1999, and the Seattle Seahawks from 2010 to 2023. In 291 games coaching the NFL, he has a record of 170 wins, 120 losses, and one tie, with a winning percentage of .586.
Carroll was also a Super Bowl champion with the Seahawks. On February 2, 2014, the Seahawks spanked the Denver Broncos 43-8 at MetLife Stadium in New York. The Broncos were 2.5 point favourites heading into the game, however the Broncos simply could not get their running game going as they only had 27 rushing yards.
For the second straight season, the Seahawks finished above .500 with Carroll in charge. Last season and this season, the Seahawks had identical records of nine wins and eight losses. However in 2022, the Seahawks made the playoffs before losing to the San Francisco 49ers 41-23. This season, the playoff fate was different for the Seahawks. A nine-win season filled with mediocrity was simply not enough. The Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers reached the postseason with records of nine wins and eight losses, however the Seahawks were unable to get the job done. A major reason was a four-game losing streak midway through the year. At one time the Seahawks were 6-3, and all of a sudden, they were 6-7.
