Wow. The Seattle Seahawks must be having some woes at running back at the moment. On Monday, Seattle brought back 33-year-old veteran running back Marshawn Lynch out of retirement.

The major reason for the Lynch return was because of an influx of injuries in the Seattle backfield. Chris Carson is gone for the season with a hip fracture. So too are CJ Prosise (arm) and Rashaad Penny (knee). That leaves Travis Homer as Seattle’s primary running back, with Lynch and Robert Turbin (who they also brought back) as Seattle’s backups.

Seattle only had 89 total rushing yards from four different running backs on Sunday in their shocking 27-13 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. They were in need of bringing back a veteran who knew Pete Carroll’s system extremely well.

The Seahawks are playoff-bound but are not entering the playoffs with the same amount of momentum as other NFC contenders such as the Green Bay Packers, San Francisco 49ers and New Orleans Saints. On Monday night in Minnesota, Green Bay won the NFC North with a 23-10 win over the Vikings. Speaking of running backs, it was an unbelievable performance from Aaron Jones, who had 23 carries for 154 yards and two touchdowns. It is safe to say that at 33, do not expect Lynch to have that kind of performance the rest of the season.

It will be interesting to see if the Seahawks are getting a running back that will do more than celebrate by eating Skittles. He has not played at all this season. In 2018, Lynch played six games with the Oakland Raiders and had 90 rushes for 376 yards and three touchdowns. He also had 15 catches for 84 yards.

Twice while with the Seahawks, Lynch led the NFL in rushing touchdowns. He had a league-high 12 in 2013 and then 13 in 2014. Known as “Beast Mode,” Lynch has also been selected to five Pro Bowls (four with Seattle and one with Buffalo).
