The Seattle Seahawks are bringing back defensive back Shaquill Griffin of St. Petersburg, Florida (pictured center). The terms of the deal are one year and worth $3 million according to nfl.com. Griffin initially played four seasons with the Seahawks from 2017 to 2020, before two seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2021 and 2022), sharing the 2023 season with the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, and playing the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings.
Griffin had 41 combined tackles with the Vikings this past season. He had 33 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles, one tackle for a loss, two interceptions for 28 yards and six pass deflections. The first interception was for 28 yards and came in a 31-29 Vikings win over the Green Bay Packers on September 29. The second interception and tackle for a loss came in a 23-22 Vikings win over the Arizona Cardinals on December 1.
From 2017 to 2020 with the Seahawks, Griffin had 249 combined tackles (203 solo tackles and 46 assisted tackles), nine tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit, six interceptions for 28 yards, 48 pass deflections and one sack. The quarterback hit and sack came in a 21-12 Seahawks win over the Dallas Cowboys on December 24.
In 2019, Griffin was selected to the Pro Bowl. That year he had 65 combined tackles (45 solo tackles and 20 assisted tackles), two tackles for a loss and 13 pass deflections.
It should be noted that Shaquill Griffin is the twin brother of linebacker Shaquem Griffin. The fact that Shaquem Griffin played three seasons with the Seattle Seahawks from 2018 to 2020 was extremely historic because he played in the National Football League with only one hand.
