Scottie Scheffler (X)
Scottie Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey has won the 2026 American Express Championship in La Quinta, California. Scheffler won his 20th PGA title, but the first time he has won the American Express Championship.
Right now, it simply does not matter if it is a minor tournament or a major tournament. Scheffler is considered a contender every single week. That is the reason why Scheffler is the world number one and our favourite to win the American Express Championship last week.
Scheffler won the American Express Championship comfortably. He posted a winning score of -27 and beat four golfers by four strokes. Those in second place at -23 were Australia’s own Jason Day of Beaudesert, Australia, American Ryan Gerard of Raleigh, North Carolina, American Matt McCarthy of Scottsdale, Arizona, and Andrew Putnam of Tacoma, Washington. This was a notable result for Day, as he climbed 29 spots in the world rankings with the second place finish. He is now 33rd in the world after being 62nd place last week. Scheffler continues to be the world number one. He is averaging 16.9591 average points, and has a commanding lead over world number two Rory McIlroy, who is in second place with 8.5633 points.
In the first 38 holes of the tournament, Scheffler did not have a bogey. He shot a first round score of nine-under-par at the La Quinta Country Club, a second round score of eight-under-par at the Nicklaus Tournament Course, a third round score of four-under-par at the Pete Dye Stadium Course, and a fourth round score of six-under-par. Scheffler won the tournament despite a double bogey on the 17th hole in round four.
