Scottie Scheffler, the world number one, has gone from being presented with a green jacket for winning the Masters, to being presented the plaid jacket for winning the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina on Monday. For Scheffler of Ridgewood, New Jersey, who was our pick to win the title this past week, it was his 10th career PGA title, and fourth tournament victory in 2024.
The 2024 RBC Heritage ended on Monday because inclement weather transpired on Sunday. When play started on the final day of competition, it was going to be inevitable that Scheffler would get the victory. With three holes left, Scheffler was at -20, and led reigning United States Open champion Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado by a dominant five strokes.
In Monday’s play, Scheffler went one-over-par in three holes, but it was still good enough to take the title. He shot a four-round score of -19 to beat Sahith Theegala of Orange, California by three strokes.
Like Nelly Korda at the Chevron Championship, Scheffler won despite a double bogey. He posted a score of six on the third hole in round one. However, he had four birdies on Thursday to finish at -2. Scheffler then had six birdies and zero bogeys in round two, eight birdies and zero bogeys in round three, and two birdies, one eagle and one bogey in round four. Scheffler’s eagle shot was from 53 feet and one inch on the par five second hole.
Scheffler’s 2024 season has been impressive. His other two titles came at the Arnold Palmer Classic, and the Players Championship.
