According to Jaclyn Hendricks of the New York Post on Thursday, the New York Giants have come to terms with running back Saquon Barkley of The Bronx, New York to a one-year contract worth $11 million.
There was a belief that Barkley was possibly going to hold out with the Giants after not agreeing to a long-term deal. On Friday, the Giants even added insurance to the running back position as they signed James Robinson of Rockford, Illinois. However, both sides agreed on a short term contract, and Barkley will be a regular player in the Giants backfield at the start of the season.
In 2022, Barkley had a career season with the Giants after dealing with injuries over the last three seasons from 2019 to 2021. During 16 games, he had 295 rushing attempts for a career-high 1312 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns. Barkley also had 57 catches for 338 receiving yards and was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time.
The first time Barkley was selected to the Pro Bowl came in his rookie season of 2018. That year he was also the Associated Press Offensive Rookie of the Year, and led the National Football League with 2028 yards from scrimmage (1307 rushing yards and 721 receiving yards). Among the injuries that Barkley has experienced include multiple ankle ailments and a  serious knee problem which forced Barkley only to play two games during the entire 2020 NFL season.
The Giants made significant progress in 2022. Expectations were low. However they made the playoffs at nine wins, seven losses and one tie, and even beat the Minnesota Vikings 31-24 in the NFC Wildcard.
