Russell Westbrook has a record-setting month in triple-doubles

According to statmuse.com, Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook of Long Beach, California has had a marvelous April, and in the process has set the NBA record for most triple-doubles in a calendar month with 13. Westbrook initially broke the record with 12 on Monday in a 146-143 Wizards loss to the San Antonio Spurs, and then extended his record to 13 games with a triple-double on Wednesday in a 116-107 Wizards win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Wilt Chamberlain had the old record of most triple-doubles in a single month with 11. He accomplished the feat with the Philadelphia 76ers in March of 1968. Westbrook can extend his record to 14 games with a triple-double in a single month on Friday when the Wizards play the Cleveland Cavaliers.

So far in April, Westbrook had 16 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists in a 120-91 Wizards loss to the Detroit Pistons on April 1; 23 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists in a 103-101 Wizards loss to the Toronto Raptors on April 5; 23 points, 14 rebounds and 15 assists in a 131-116 Wizards win over the Orlando Magic on April 7; 19 points, 14 rebounds and 14 assists in a 110-107 Wizards win over the Golden State Warriors on April 9; 17 points, 11 rebounds and 14 assists in a 134-106 Wizards loss to the Phoenix Suns on April 10; 25 points, 14 rebounds, and 14 assists in a 125-121 Wizards win over the Utah Jazz on April 12; 25 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists in a 123-111 Wizards win over the Sacramento Kings on April 14; 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists in a 121-100 Wizards win over the Pistons on April 17; 13 points, 11 rebounds, and 17 assists in a 119-107 Wizards win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on April 19; 14 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists in a 118-114 Wizards win over the Warriors on April 21; 37 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists in a 129-109 Wizards win over the Thunder on April 23; 22 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists against the Spurs on Monday; and 18 points, 18 rebounds and 14 assists against the Lakers on Wednesday.

Even before April started, Westbrook set the Wizards record for most triple doubles all-time, and it only took him 38 games to record 16 triple-doubles. Now he has a remarkable, 30 triple-doubles this season, which leads the NBA. Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets is second with 15 triple doubles.

Westbrook is now averaging 21.7 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game, and 11 assists per game this season with the Wizards. Washington meanwhile is 10th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 28 wins and 34 losses.
