Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook of Long Beach, California made NBA history on Thursday by becoming the first player to record 50 rebounds and 50 assists each in a three game period according to ESPN. In the last three games, (two wins for the Wizards), Westbrook has had 58 assists and 50 rebounds.
On Monday, in a 154-141 Wizards win over the Indiana Pacers, Westbrook had 24 assists and 21 rebounds. On Wednesday in a 135-134 Wizards loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Westbrook had 17 assists and 12 rebounds. Then on Thursday in a 131-129 Wizards overtime win over the Toronto Raptors, Westbrook had 17 rebounds and 17 assists. In the Wizards win over the Pacers, Westbrook became the first player in NBA history to have 20 rebounds and 20 assists in a game twice in a career.Â
In all three of the games, Westbrook had a triple double. He had 14 points against the Pacers, 29 points against the Bucks, and 13 points against the Raptors.
Westbrook is also averaging a triple double on the season. He is averaging 21.8 points per game, 11.4 assists per game and 11.4 rebounds per game. The 11.4 assists per game leads the NBA.
The nine-time All-Star could be considered one of the best all-around players in the game today. He is also a major reason why the Wizards are red hot at the moment. Washington has won seven of its last 10 games, and have a comfortable three and a half game lead on the Raptors for the final spot in the play-in round in the Eastern Conference.
One area of concern for the Wizards however at the moment is their defense. They have given up an average of 118.5 points per game, the most in the NBA.
