PORT ADELAIDE POWER VS CARLTON BLUES – SATURDAY 30 MARCH, 4:40PM, ADELAIDE OVAL
Port Adelaide stunned AFL followers with an empathic 26-point win over Melbourne last weekend. It was the four debutants that shone bright showing youth and energy to a previously stagnant side. Justin Westoff kicked five majors for the Power while Tom Rockliff gathered a massive 44 disposals.
Carlton kicked off the season on Thursday night against Richmond. Trialling by 33 points a quarter time, the Blues were competitive for a half of football and showed promise before being overpowered by the Tigers in the final term. Patrick Cripps was outstanding along with fresh faces Nic Newman, Will Setterfield and second year player Harry McKay.
This week:
This encounter will mean a lot to both sides. For Port Adelaide it will be the opportunity to build on their Round 1 victory and continue to give their fans something to be excited about. Justin Westhoff will line up in game number 250 and really stepped up last week in the absence of Charlie Dixon.
For Carlton they will be looking to back up their solid performance against Richmond. They will need to stop the Powers outside run and limit the impact of Tom Rockcliff, Travis Boak and Sam Powell-Pepper. The Blues will need improved performances from the Curnow brothers and Mitch McGovern up forward.

GEELONG CATS VS MELBOURNE DEMONS – SATURDAY 30 MARCH, 7:25PM, GMHBA STADIUM
Geelong were impressive defeating Collingwood in a hard-fought bout last week by seven points. It was a scrappy affair but nonetheless enjoyable to watch as the lead continued to changed throughout the game. It was Tom Hawkins who was able to seal the deal for the Cats in the dying stages of the game with a nice goal on the run.
Tim Kelly was Geelong’s best with 31 possessions, he was assisted with solid performances from Tom Stewart, Patrick Dangerfield and Luke Dahlhaus.
Melbourne were ordinary and completely outclassed by a young Port Adelaide side last week. They were run off their feet and allowed the Power 93 more uncontested possessions. Max Gawn was roughed up by Port Adelaide throughout the game and Nathan Jones dropped an easy mark which turned the tide in the last term.
Christian Salem, James Harmes and Jake Melksham were outstanding for the Dee’s in an otherwise poor performance.
This week:
In front of a home ground at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong will look to continue their fantastic winning record. The Cats will be looking for redemption following an elimination final defeat at the hands of the Dee’s and prove that last weeks win over Collingwood was no fluke.
Melbourne will need co-captains Jack Viney and Nathan Jones to stand up this week after being down on form against Port. Max Gawn by his own admission failed to handle the physicality of his Round 1 opponents. If the above mentioned players can rise to the occasion, the rest of the midfield will follow.

WEST COAST EAGLES VS GWS GIANTS – SATURDAY 30 MARCH, 5:10PM, OPTUS STADIUM
West Coast will play their first home game of the season when they come up against GWS on Saturday afternoon at Optus Stadium. The Eagles looked in control early in their game against Brisbane but the Lions proved too strong managing to pull back a large deficit to come home victors over West Coast by 44-points.
GWS were dominant over Essendon and made them look second rate in their 72-point win. It was an all round solid hit out with the Giants too good in all areas of the ground.
This week:
The Eagles welcome back Josh Kennedy which will strengthen an otherwise inexperienced forward line. Expect West Coast to come out firing after the unveiling of their premiership flag.
GWS face a tough challenge ahead venturing to the West. They are fielding a solid team and will rely heavily on Jeremy Cameron to kick a winning score. Stephen Coniglio and Lachie Whitfield were in good touch last week and will need to back it up against the reigning premiers.
Think West Coast will be too strong at home.
