Rosehill Preview: Waller Hoping For Dettori Magic

Chris Waller and his assistant trainer Charlie Duckworth can’t wait for Frankie Dettori to take the mount on Welwal in the Golden Eagle.

Duckworth said growing up in England, Dettori was his hero and that he was an absolute freak.
Waller said Wewal had similar form lines to his stablemate El Bodegon who was an unlucky second in the Cox Plate.

“You’ve got to respect that French and English form. He’s a good horse and he’s going well.

He’ll get a nice run from barrier 9,” Waller said.

Waller also has last start Epsom Handicap third placegetter Hinged and Fangirl in the Golden Eagle.

“They are both Group 1 winners and they are in good form and ready to go but Fangirl has barrier 17 and Hinged barrier 20. If they are getting to the middle of the track and running on it would bring them into the race but that doesn’t necessarily happen at Rosehill,” he said.

Hinged is a $13 chance, Fangirl is $17 and Wewal is $20.

James Cummings also has Vilana, who is an $18 hope with TopSport and he said he was hoping for a lot of pressure in the race. Get Great Odds With Unibet Here

“He went like a bomb first-up, so hopefully, he carries on with his preparation in the Golden Eagle,” Cummings said.

“He’s going to need to have his wits about him. He’s drawn out there near the Parramatta Speedway.”

“But there are a number of good chances who have drawn high on the track and there’s bound to be a lot of pressure in that race.”

“With plenty of pressure and the quality of opposition that he’s coming up against, I’m still glad he went so well first-up, because it gives you an idea how well your horse has to be going to even be considered a real chance in this race.”
