The Celtics and Mavericks played twice against each other in the regular season, with the Celtics winning 119-110 in Dallas on January 22 and the Celtics winning again 138-110 in Boston on March 1. In the Celtics win over the Mavericks in Dallas, four Celtics reached double digits in points. The Celtics star was power forward Jayson Tatum of St. Louis, Missouri who had a double-double. He had 39 points and 11 rebounds (all defensive boards). Tatum made 11 of 21 field goals, two of eight three-point shots, 15 of 19 free throws, with five assists, three steals, two blocks and was a +27. Meanwhile, small forward Jaylen Brown of Marietta, Georgia had 34 points, point guard Jrue Holiday of Chatsworth, California had 17 points, and center Al Horford of Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic had 11 points.
In the Celtics win over the Mavericks in Boston, seven Celtics reached double digits in scoring. Tatum led the way with 32 points. He was followed by Brown (25 points), center Kristaps Porzingis (24 points), shooting guard Derrick White of Parker, Colorado (13 points), Horford (12 points), Holiday (11 points), and point guard Payton Pritchard (10 points). Tatum and Horford had eight rebounds each to lead Boston, while White had eight assists to lead the Celtics. Boston won every quarter, and dominated Dallas in the second half, outscoring them 72-51.
