Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey out for the season with a torn pectoral muscle
December 9, 2021
The Baltimore Ravens suffered a huge blow on Monday, as it was announced that two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey of Hoover, Alabama will miss the remainder of the 2021 National Football League season with a torn pectoral muscle. Humphrey suffered the injury on Sunday when he tried to tackle Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson on the play that Johnson scored the game-winning touchdown according to Jamison Hensley of ESPN. Johnson caught a five-yard touchdown pass from Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger in a 20-19 Baltimore win. The touchdown put the Steelers up 20-13 at the time.
In 12 games this season, Humphrey has 58 combined tackles (44 solo tackles and 14 assisted tackles), one quarterback hit, one forced fumble, and one interception. The forced fumble and interception both came in the Ravens’ 41-17 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on October 24.
What Humphrey was able to accomplish a year ago as a cornerback was mightily impressive. He led the NFL with eight forced fumbles, the most forced fumbles by a cornerback in a single season in NFL history.

Humphrey also has two career touchdowns from forced fumbles. They both came in the 2019 NFL season in back-to-back games. The first was on an 18-yard fumble return in a 30-13 Ravens win over the Seattle Seahawks on October 20, 2019, and the second was on a 70-yard fumble return in a 37-20 Ravens win over the New England Patriots on November 3, 2019.
Marlon Humphrey is the second Humphrey this week to make NFL headlines. On Friday, former Atlanta Falcons Hall of Fame defensive end Claude Humphrey passed away at the age of 77. Marlon’s father played in the NFL, but it was not Claude. Marlon’s father Bobby Humphrey of Birmingham, Alabama was a running back with the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins for four NFL seasons from 1989 to 1992.
