The Texas Rangers have signed relief pitcher Tyler Alexander of Chicago, Illinois and catcher Danny Jansen of Elmhurst, Illinois (pictured as the catcher) according to Rogers Sportsnet on Friday. We know the length of Alexander’s deal is for one year but the financial details have not yet been disclosed. Jansen is signing a two year contract worth $14.5 million.
Alexander is joining his fifth Major League Baseball team. He previously pitched five seasons for the Detroit Tigers (2019 to 2023), one season with the Tampa Bay Rays (2024), and shared his time last year with the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox.
In 2025, Alexander had a record of five wins and 14 losses in 52 games with an earned run average of 4.98. In 97 2/3 innings pitched, Alexander gave up 107 hits, 54 earned runs, nine home runs, and 30 walks, to go along with 82 strikeouts, one save, three holds, and a WHIP (walks and hits per innings pitched) of 1.40. Alexander’s save came on April 20 in a 14-1 Brewers win over the Athletics.
Jansen is also joining his fifth MLB team. Like Alexander, Jansen played last season with the Brewers, and has also played with the Rays in his MLB career (2025). Jansen played his first seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays (2018 to 2024), and one season with the Boston Red Sox (2024). In a bizarre circumstance during the 2024 MLB season, Jansen played with the Blue Jays and Red Sox in the same game. A game was delayed during the season between the Blue Jays and Red Sox, and when the game resumed months later, Jansen had been traded from the Blue Jays to the Red Sox.
In 2025 with the Rays and Brewers, Jansen batted .215 with 14 home runs and 36 runs batted in. During 98 games, 288 at bats, and 337 plate appearances, he scored 38 runs, and had 62 hits, 11 doubles, 42 walks, 115 total bases, one sacrifice bunt, two sacrifice flies, an on base percentage of .321 and a slugging percentage of .399.
The sacrifice bunt and two sacrifice flies in 2025 came in victories for the teams Jansen was playing for. The first sacrifice fly came in a 5-1 Rays win over the Kansas City Royals on June 24 and the second sacrifice fly came in a 16-9 Brewers win over the Washington Nationals on August 1. The sacrifice bunt came in a 3-0 Rays win over the Royals on June 25.
