Randwick Review: O’Shea Triumphs In The Ingham

SYDNEY’S last rich race for the year proved to be a triumph for a trainer who has made a big impact in 2022 when John O’Shea trained the quinella of Kirwan’s Lane and Lion’s Roar in the $2 million The Ingham at Randwick.

It was a trip down memory lane for O’Shea as his first major win as a trainer was in the 2000 the Villiers Stakes which was won by Grey And Gold. The Villiers Stakes was renamed The Ingham this year.

O’Shea will set Kirwan’s Lane for the $4 million Doncaster Mile to be run on April 1.

O’Shea pointed out that Kirwan’s Lane was a specialist miler and that was an obvious target for him.

O’Shea has spent the past five years re-establishing himself as a public trainer after training for Godolphin for three years and that Kirwan’s Lane was one of his first horses he started to train.

He said that Lion’s Roar will also be set for the Doncaster Mile but could have another start in the Summer Cup at Randwick.

O’Shea has trained 29 winners in Sydney for the season at a strike rate of 13%.

He looks set for a big 2023 as his team contains the likes of Lost And Running, Maximal, Promise Of Success and Benaud in addition to The Ingham quinella.
