Randwick Review: Giga Kicks Big Monetary Goals
April 19, 2023
As it stands in terms of prizemoney won per start Giga Kick is the greatest horse Australia has produced winning just short of a million dollars per start.
After his win in the All-Aged Stakes, Giga Kick has now won $8,699,700 which places him 13th on the all-time Australian money earners and he’s still only a three-year-old.
How much money could he end up winning? It’s scary just to think about it.
Next spring his main missions are The Everest again and The Golden Eagle. Victory in those two races could earn him another $12 million.
His win over 1400 metres and the contempt which he showed for his older rivals in a Group 1 race proved he’s a bone fide star.
As he’s a gelding, his trainer Clayton Douglas plans to have him around racing for several years.
In days gone by Douglas would have had to stretch him out in distance to maximise his prizemoney earning capabilities but not anymore.
He can race him sparingly and rake in the big dollars as the years go by without having to ever take him to a Cox Plate out of necessity to chase the big dollars.
Amazingly the horse which could challenge him for the big prizes next spring, is the Perth three-year-old filly Amelia’s Jewel who was beaten on Saturday but put in an astonishing performance to finish second in The Quokka.
She is also likely to target both The Everest and The Golden Eagle.
Yes, there’s no doubt the racing landscape has changed. The connections of Mr Brightside must be licking their lips in regards to the 2023 Cox Plate as there already appears a dearth of challengers.
