Randwick Preview: Shinn’s Sydney Clue

Star jockey Blake Shinn has given punters a pointer by returning to Sydney to ride Caulfield Guineas runner-up Elliptical in the $2 million Spring Champion Stakes (2000m) rather than stay in Melbourne on Saturday.

Co-trainer Sam Freedman told Racing NSW website that they would leave the tactics up to Shinn.

“He’s a horse that can position up fairly close to the speed without bustling him to be anywhere but we’ll leave all the tactics up to Blake,’’ Freedman said.

“Blake was tossing up whether he was going to stay in Melbourne, when we said we’d like him to ride he was keen to head up so it’s a good sign.

“He’s got a good feel of the horse, he’s ridden him in a piece of work as well so he was keen to stick with him.”

Elliptical is a $4.20 equal favourite with She’s Extreme at TopSport.

JAMES Cummings is using the $1 million Group 2 Callander-Presnell as a a test for his Caulfield Guineas winner Golden Mile to see whether he’s a Doncaster horse next autumn.

“Before he goes to the paddock, he gets a chance to have his first run at Randwick,” Cummings said. Get Great Odds With Unibet Here

“He’s very well in at the set weights and it might just give a demonstration whether or not he’s a (G1) Doncaster (Handicap) chance in the autumn,” Cummings said.

TopSport has the Caulfield Guineas winner a $1.75 chance in the $2 millin event over 1600 metres.

“It’s another important race for Golden Mile, who’s amassing an impressive record and we haven’t seen the best of yet.”
