Randwick Preview: Godolphin Pair Ready To Swoop In The Silver Eagle
October 6, 2022
ALTHOUGH both of James Cummings horses, Vilana and Brigantine, are at a double figure quote in the Silver Eagle 2022 at Randwick on Saturday he’s upbeat about their chances and thinks they can emerge as legitimate Golden Eagle prospects.
“We’re feeling like we’ve got two good chances there,” Cummings said.
Vilana is $10 with TopSports and Brigantine is $11.
Cummings said it was a big effort by Vilana to win the Group 3 Fred Best Classic over winter at Eagle Farm.
“It’s not as easy race to win, the (G3) Fred Best Classic, so I think he can run a really good race.”
“That horse is going beautifully, is fresh-up but can handle the ground.”
“He gets a very minimal penalty for being a G3 winner, and he won a pretty stylish G3.”
“He should be open to improvement, but I wouldn’t put it past the horse to be forward enough to be right among the most competitive horses in the race.”
Cummings said he was looking forward to Brigantine rising in class after his first-up win at Randwick over 1200 metres on September 16.

“He had been off the scene for a long time, so full credit to my team to have the horse cherry ripe fresh-up from a long time off,” Cummings said.
“At Randwick, he launched up the middle from the three-wide line in the same fashion he left off.”
“Now he’s coming up against a few of the big guns, it’s a big step up in class into Test match footy here and hopefully, he can keep making that progression.”
“He’s really trained on beautifully and looks great. The conditions will be very testing, so having a run under his belt will be an advantage.”
Cummings pointed out that last spring Brigantine finished second to Fangirl in the Carbine Club Stakes at Flemington which was great form. View PLAYUP Racing Markets Here
