According to Spotrac.com on Monday, the Las Vegas Raiders have signed wide receiver Michael Gallup of Atlanta, Georgia to a one-year deal worth $3 million. The Raiders become Gallup’s second National Football League franchise, after he spent the last six seasons with the Dallas Cowboys.
In 2023, Gallup had 34 catches for 418 receiving yards and two touchdowns in 17 games. Gallup’s two touchdowns came in Cowboys wins over NFC East Division rivals. The first came in a 49-17 Cowboys win over the New York Giants on November 12. Gallup had a 41-yard touchdown catch from Dak Prescott, which put the Cowboys up 35-7 at the time. The second came in a 33-13 Cowboys win over the Philadelphia Eagles on December 10. Gallup had a one-yard touchdown catch from Prescott with 20 seconds left in the first half, which put the Cowboys up 24-6.
Gallup’s finest NFL season came in 2019. That year he had career highs in receptions (66), receiving yards (1107), and touchdown receptions (six).
Twice in Gallup’s NFL career, he has had a multi-touchdown game. He had five catches for 98 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-16 Cowboys win over the Washington Redskins on December 29, 2019. Gallup also had six catches for 121 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a 37-17 Cowboys win over the Philadelphia Eagles on December 27, 2020.
It is a little curious however that the Raiders would sign another wide receiver, when they have an influx of players at the position. Gallup joins Davante Adams of Redwood City, California, who is one of the best wideouts in the game today, Jakobi Meyers of Lithonia, Georgia, and Tre Tucker of Akron, Ohio. With the high number of receivers, do not be surprised if the Raiders trade one for a running back.
