Raiders release Henry Ruggs III after fatal car crash
November 5, 2021

Henry Ruggs III of the Las Vegas Raiders has been released according to Jordan Greer of The Sporting News. The release on Tuesday comes after Ruggs III was involved in a fatal car accident with another vehicle which killed a 23-year old woman and a dog.
According to ESPN, Nevada prosecutors state that Ruggs III was driving at 156 miles per hour, and had a blood alcohol content twice the legal limit. When Ruggs III’s vehicle slammed into another vehicle, the other vehicle burned and a woman was dead at the scene. Ruggs III had two other passengers in his vehicle at the time. One of the passengers was his girlfriend, who is the mother of Ruggs III’s daughter. Ruggs III, his girlfriend, and the other passenger in Ruggs III’s car were taken to hospital for serious injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Ruggs III was in his second season with the Raiders. In seven games in 2021, he had 24 catches for 469 yards and two touchdowns. Ruggs III’s best game this season came on September 19 in a 26-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. He had five catches for 113 yards and one touchdown. Ruggs III had another touchdown in a 34-24 Raiders win over the Denver Broncos on October 17. In that contest, Ruggs III had three catches for 97 yards.

At the time of the fatal accident and release, Ruggs III was leading the Raiders in receiving yards. In 2020, he had 26 catches for 452 yards and two touchdowns.
The Raiders are currently in first place in the AFC West. They have a record of five wins and two losses. The fact that the Raiders are first is noteworthy considering the fact that they have already had a coaching change this year. Last month Rich Bisaccia replaced Jon Gruden after it was determined that Gruden had sent a series of inappropriate emails.
