RACING TIPS: Canterbury Best Selection & Value Play 1/1
December 31, 2025
News Years Day Sydney racing takes place at Canterbury hosting a twilight meeting. Our analyst has selected a David Payne 3yo coming off a big win over the same track/distance and a speedy Snowden sprinter in the feature as the value play.Â

Best Selection: R5- Hereward
The Payne 3yo gets a great opportunity to record back-to-back wins after starting his career with three 2nds from his opening 4 starts. He broke his maiden with an emphatic 2.3L victory over this track distance 13 days ago. This isn’t the strongest race, with the favourite coming off a maiden win at Newcastle. He has the gate speed to overcome the wide gate and should have a big break on the favourite heading into the short straight.Â

Value Selection: R7 – Zealously
Zealously looks way over the odds at $7.5 in the market. He comes off a 1.8L 2nd to King’s Secret over 1100m at Randwick last start and that runner has come up as favourite in this race. He does meet him 5.5kg better at the weights in this dropping down to 54kg and looks better suited to Canterbury where he has won before. He will need to stretch his speed out to 1200m at his first attempt at the trip but there is enough value there to take the risk.Â
