RIVERINA LULU stamped herself as a potential star of the future with her impressive debut win at Flemington leaving some highly rated two-year-olds in her wake.
The Grahame Begg trained filly had won all her jump-outs but she was expected to play a backseat to the Lindsay park trained Hard Kick and Black Caviar’s grand-daughter Panchenko.
She had little trouble defeating that pair who were unplaced.
Grahame Begg’s assistant trainer Rowan Hughes said the master horseman’s decision to make her debut at Flemington rather than a mid-weeker at Sandown had proven spot on.

“That was super exciting. Very happy for our team. The boss is in Japan but it’s very exciting,” Hughes said.
“That was suggestive of a really nice horse. Grahame brought her along slowly. He’s been careful with her.”
“We might have to give her a little break as we’re on the cusp of spring.”
Harry Coffey who flew back from Mildura on Saturday morning agreed.
“She gave me a great feel. She’s got an exciting future.”
Maher treble scoring with Kaleo, Piastri and Saint George. The last winner, Saint George, provided promising apprentice Emily Pozman with her second winner at Flemington.
Maher’s National Assistant trainer Jack Turnbull, who will marry Pozman’s sister Tiarn later in the year said he loved her ride on Saint George.
“She’s upskilling, she’s a hard worker and that will take her a long way. It was a smooth watch,” Turnbull said.
He said they may consider running Saint George in The Archer at Flemington in September which carries a golden ticket into the Melbourne Cup for the winner.
