Tutu Atwell’s time with the Miami Dolphins was very short lived. After signing a one-year deal worth $1.4 million with the Dolphins on March 12, Atwell was traded from the Dolphins back to the Los Angeles Rams on Thursday for running back Jarquez Hunter of Meridian, Mississippi according to ESPN on Thursday.
This will be Atwell’s second stint with the Rams. However, due to the fact he never played a single regular season game with the Dolphins, you could make the argument that Atwell barely left Los Angeles to begin with. In 64 games with the Rams from 2021 to 2025, Atwell had 105 catches for 1535 receiving yards and five touchdown catches.
In 2025 with the Rams, Atwell had six catches for 192 receiving yards and one touchdown. However, the touchdown catch was memorable. In a 27-20 Rams win over the Indianapolis Colts on September 28, Atwell caught a game-winning 88 yard touchdown pass from eventual MVP Matthew Stafford with one minute and 33 seconds left in the game. It was the longest touchdown pass in the 2026 NFL regular season.
Hunter was a rookie for the Rams in 2025. He played five games with the Rams and was on the football field for 22 special teams plays. Hunter was the fourth round pick, 117th overall, by the Rams in the 2025 NFL Draft. He played his college football at the University of Auburn.
It should not be too much of a learning curve for Atwell as he knows the Rams offense relatively well. What will be an issue is playing time. Atwell will probably be a WR4 as he is behind Puka Nacua, Davante Adams and Jordan Whittington on the Rams depth chart. Atwell will also lose looks as the Rams have two formidable tight ends in Colby Parkinson and Tyler Higbee.
