RACING: Randwick Best Selection & Value Play 14/2

Rosehill plays host to the G1 Coolmore Stakes day. Our analyst likes a Waller mare drawn to get a gun run in the feature and a Freedman 4yo at double figure odds as the value play.

Best Selection: R8- Lazzura

Lazurra looks the class runner in a fairly even G1 Coolmore Stakes. She has produced great figures her last three career starts, 2 from the backend of last prep in the G1 Toorak and G1 Empire Rose.

Those that dived into the $2 in the G2 Millie Fox 1st up may be hard to convince but I was really impressed by her 0.1L 2nd to Cinsault. She showed tactical versatility settling a lot closer in 3rd, albeit it on a moderate tempo, and looked the winner when she cruised up to Cinsault at the 300m. The Freedman mare benefited from the 4 runs under her belt this prep and fought back for a narrow victory. There was a 2.5L gap back to 3rd with 4th place Pinot a big winner last week. After an eye-catching tick over trial between runs, which you don’t often see from Waller, I expect Lazzura to come on a lot from that run and look just as impressive over the final 200m as she did at the top of the straight.

Value Selection: R6- Enriched

Enriched comes to the G3 McCarten with a fitness advantage over a lot of his rivals. He was ordinary 1st up possibly lacking fitness before being sent to the trials where he scored a dominant 4L victory over the Randwick 1050m. He was a fantastic 1.3L in the G3 Liverpool Cup 2nd up where he did appear to struggle to run a strong 1300m. There are a couple of queries; he drops back from 1300m to 1100m but was a winner of the Listed Fireball when last over this trip this time last year. The weight could be the main concern jumping from 53.5kg to 58kg in a similar standard of race. Happy to be taking that risk on at $10 for a fit and in-form horse.
