Philadelphia 76ers acquire Danny Green and Seth Curry
November 20, 2020
According to Ky Carlin of USA Today, the Philadelphia 76ers made two separate trades on Wednesday by acquiring Danny Green in a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder, and acquiring Seth Curry in a deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Green was not with the Thunder for long as he was originally traded from the Los Angeles Lakers to Oklahoma City on Wednesday with a first-round draft pick for German point guard Dennis Schroder.
Green was traded from the Thunder to the 76ers with small forward Terrance Ferguson for five-time all-star center Al Horford, two draft picks, and the rights for Serbian point guard Vasilije Micic. Curry was traded from the Mavericks to the 76ers for Josh Richardson and a second-round draft pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Green averaged eight points last season with the Lakers. The veteran shooting guard has now won three NBA titles–2014 with the San Antonio Spurs, 2019 with the Toronto Raptors, and 2020 with the Lakers.
Schroder did an outstanding job coming off the bench for the Thunder last season. In 65 games, of which only two were starts, he averaged 18.9 points per game, four assists per game, 3.6 rebounds per game, a field goal percentage of .469, a three-point percentage of .385, and a free throw percentage of .839.
Horford was an all-star with the Hawks in 2010, 2011, 2015, and 2016, along with the Celtics in 2018. Last season in Philadelphia, he averaged 11.9 points per game, 6.8 rebounds per game, four assists per game, a .450 field goal percentage, a .350 three-point percentage, and a .763 free-throw percentage.
The 76ers now become Curry’s seventh NBA team in the last seven seasons. He has previously played with the Memphis Grizzlies, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Phoenix Suns, Sacramento Kings, and Portland Trail Blazers, in addition to Dallas. In 64 games last year, he averaged 12.4 points per game, 2.3 rebounds per game, 1.9 assists per game, a field goal percentage of .495, a three-point percentage of .452, and a free-throw percentage of .825. Ironically, Curry becomes reunited with his father-in-law as he is married to Callie Rivers, the daughter of 76ers head coach Doc Rivers.
Richardson will be joining his third NBA team. In addition to the 76ers, he has played four seasons with the Miami Heat. In 2019-20 with Philadelphia, Richardson averaged 13.7 points per game, 3.2 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists per game, a field goal percentage of .430, three-point percentage of .341, and a free-throw percentage of .809.

In Philadelphia, Green and Curry are both expected to play shooting guard. Both players are capable of playing small forward as well.
Schroder meanwhile is expected to be the starting shooting guard for the Lakers, Richardson, the starting small forward for the Mavericks, and Horford, the starting power forward for the Thunder. Even though Horford has played center for the majority of his NBA career, it is expected that OKC will continue with New Zealand native Steven Adams at the number five position.
Things could get interesting for the Thunder however if they re-sign Danilo Gallinari. That is not expected, however, as the Atlanta Hawks are the front runner for his services at the moment.
