Six-time major champion Phil Mickelson of San Diego, California is no longer part of the field of the 2026 British Open at Royal Birkdale later this month according to Alex Perry of www.todays-golfer.com. The reason why Mickelson is withdrawing is because he and his wife Amy, are dealing with a “family health matter” according to Joel Beall of Golf Digest.
Mickelson is currently making golf headlines because of misconduct allegations. According to Beall and Tod Leonard of Golf Digest, he is no longer a member at the Farms Golf Club near San Diego because a female employee allegedly accused Mickelson of inappropriate nonconsensual contact in the spring. Mickelson is also being accused of allegedly showing an inappropriate picture to Pat Perez’s ex-wife Ashley according to Perry.
Only once have we seen Mickelson compete in a professional golf tournament in 2026. That came at the LIV event in South Africa in March, where Mickelson finished tied for 48th with a score of seven-under-par.
