The PGA Tour is in the middle of their California swing this week with the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. One regular stop the PGA Tour will not make this year is at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, as it was recently announced that the Genesis Invitational will be played this season at Torrey Pines in San Diego, California because of the California wildfires.

The wildfires over the last month have done significant damage to the California region. It has spread over 37,000 acres, damaged over 16,000 structures and caused 28 deaths.

The Riviera Country Club is one of the most recognizable golf courses in the world. It should be noted the course has not been damaged, but is located in the heart of the Pacific Palisades community, where a significant part of the destruction has taken place, and is temporarily closed. In addition to hosting the Genesis Invitational on a regular basis since 1973, the golf course has hosted the 1948 United States Open (won by Ben Hogan), the 1983 PGA Championship (won by Hal Sutton), and the 1995 PGA Championship (won by Australia’s own Steve Elkington of Inverell). In the coming years, the Riviera Country Club will host the 2026 United States Women’s Open, men’s and women’s golf at the 2028 Olympic Games and the 2031 United States Open in men’s golf.

This is the second time this year the PGA Tour will be at Torrey Pines. The course is the regular stop for the Farmers Insurance Open which takes place every January. This year’s champion was American Harris English. It should be noted that when the Farmers Insurance Open takes place, players are on the north course and south course for each of the first two rounds before going to the south course for rounds three and four. The Torrey Pines South Course is 7802 yards, the longest course on the PGA Tour. Twice the Torrey Pines South Course has hosted the United States Open. Tiger Woods won in 2008 and Jon Rahm won in 2021. For the Genesis Invitational in 2025, the south course will be used in all four rounds from February 13-16.
