Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson out long term with hamstring injury
November 28, 2024
According to Terry Kimble of Yardbarker on Wednesday, New Orleans Pelicans power forward Zion Williamson of Salisbury, North Carolina is out indefinitely with a hamstring injury and there is no word at this time when he will return. Williamson has only played six games this season with New Orleans, as the first overall pick in the 2019 National Basketball Association draft suffered the lower body injury on November 6 in a 131-122 Pelicans loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
In six games, Williamson is averaging 22.7 points per game, eight rebounds per game, 5.3 assists per game, and 1.2 blocks per game. He has a field goal percentage of .452, free throw percentage of .667, and three point percentage of .333.
One thing we know so far this season is that the Pelicans only have a winning percentage of .333 with Williamson (two wins in six games), but are significantly worse without Williamson. In 12 games, New Orleans has a record of two wins and 10 losses for a pitiful winning percentage of .167. The Pelicans have also lost five straight games.
This is not the first time Williamson has dealt with a hamstring ailment. At the beginning of January of 2023, Williamson suffered a hamstring strain. At he time, he was expected to miss only three weeks, but it turned out to be three months, and eventually missed the rest of the 2022-23 season. Williamson also tore his meniscus in his rookie season, and missed the entire 2021-22 season with a foot injury.
Despite no Williamson, the Pelicans are actually a 9.5 point favourite to beat the Toronto Raptors at home on Wednesday. The Raptors have yet to win a game this season on the road.
