Paul George to join 76ers on 4-year deal

9-time All-Star Paul George has agreed to a four-year, $212 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, per multiple reports.

The move firms as the biggest of the offseason with the 76ers hoping to launch into title contention headed by a star trio of George, Joel Embiid, and Tyrese Maxey.

The negotiations took place in Los Angeles where George’s team met with key figures including 76ers owner Josh Harris, president of basketball operations Daryl Morey, general manager Elton Brand and Hall of Famer Julius Erving.

The parties also agreed that the fourth year of George’s deal would include a player option.

George informed the Clippers – who he has spent the past five seasons with – that he would be opting out of his deal and signing elsewhere earlier today.

The franchise was reportedly on a different page in terms of length of contract with their 34-year-old star and their relationship broke down as a result.

George is fresh off a year in which he averaged 22.6 ppg and 5.2 rpg in 74 games – his highest total since the 2018/19 season.

He provides the 76ers size and scoring nous on the wing along with a time-tested defensive skillset.

The 76ers also agreed to bring back wing Kelly Oubre Jr. and add bigman Andre Drummond and guard Eric Gordon on the opening day of free agency.
