Patriots sign running back Ezekiel Elliott
August 16, 2023

According to Michael Baca of nfl.com on Monday, the New England Patriots have signed running back Ezekiel Elliott of St. Louis, Missouri to a one-year contract that could see the veteran player earn up to $6 million. Elliott, who had been with the Cowboys for the last seven seasons, was released on March 15.
In 15 games for Dallas last season, Elliott had 231 rushes for 876 rushing yards and 12 touchdown rushes. He also had 17 catches for 92 receiving yards.
The reason for Elliott’s release is because Dallas is committed to Tony Pollard of Memphis, Tennessee. Last season Pollard was selected to the Pro Bowl after reaching the 1000-yard mark for the first time in his career.
The Patriots are getting a three-time Pro Bowl running back in Elliott. He was selected to the Pro Bowl in 2016, 2018, and 2019. Elliott was with the Cowboys for 103 games, and had 1881 rushes for 8262 rushing yards and 68 rushing touchdowns. He also had 305 catches for 336 receiving yards and 12 touchdown catches.
Twice while with the Cowboys, Elliott led the NFL in rushing yards. He had 1631 rushing yards in 2016 and 1434 rushing yards in 2018.
In New England, Elliott will be in a timeshare with Rhamondre Stevenson of Las Vegas, Nevada. Stevenson had 210 rushes for 1040 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns, along with 69 catches for 421 receiving yards and one touchdown catch in 2022.
New England was in the market for a backup running back or a RB 1B when Damien Harris of Richmond, Kentucky, signed with the Buffalo Bills in the offseason. He signed a one-year deal worth $1.77 million according to Spotrac.
