Pakenham Review: Not Invincible But There’s A Touch Of Caviar
December 5, 2022

The most impressive win from last Saturday’s Pakenham Cup meeting was by Black Caviar’s daughter Invincible Caviar which begs the question how far can she progress?
Invincible Caviar has the distinction of being Black Caviar’s first city winner from her five foals to race.
Previously her best progeny had been Prince Of Caviar, who the Hawkes team had a good opinion of him, but with his pedigree, he headed to stud.
Invincible Caviar promises to be the first of Black Caviar’s progeny to get a reasonable level.
Her trainer Peter Moody has put it out there for some time that he thinks she is the best of her progeny and could get to stakes level.
The astute trainer should prove to be spot on. There’s a big leap from winning a Benchmark 70 over 1200 metres at Pakenham but Invincible Caviar has a stack of improvement to come and her time of 1.09.51 min stood up well for the day.
Invincible Caviar also ran a quicker time than the Benchmark 78 for fillies and mares and was .14 seconds slower than Umgawa who won a Benchmark 1000 but she carried 3.5 kilos more.
At her previous start at Moonee Valley, she got held up and cluttered away and had little chance.
Moody’s assistant trainer Katherine Coleman said Saturday’s win clear air and a bigger track made all the difference to her.
Her jockey Luke Nolen assessed her as a work in progress.
“What I was most pleased with today was the way she settled and how she rounded it off.
She’s sort of been a bull at a gate a little bit in her races so that’s encouraging going forward. I would say she’s still on a learning curve (mentally) but she had a good experience here today and that will hold her in good stead going forward,” Nolen said.
It will be fascinating to watch her progress. Get Top Odds Here
