The Green Bay Packers have signed kicker Brandon McManus of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania according to the Associated Press on Wednesday. The terms of the contract are one year, and worth $1.21 million according to Spotrac.
McManus is joining his third National Football League franchise. He was with the Denver Broncos for nine seasons from 2014 to 2022, and then last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In 17 games with the Jaguars last season, McManus made 30 of 37 field goals. He made all four field goal attempts from 20 to 29 yards, all 10 field goal attempts from 30 to 39 yards, 11 of 13 field goal attempts from 40 to 49 yards, and five of 10 field goal attempts from 50 yards or more.
McManus is replacing rookie Brayden Narveson of Scottsdale, Arizona. In six games this season, Narveson made 12 of 17 field goals.
The reason why McManus did not play this season so far is because he was released by the Washington Commanders on June 2, due to sexual assault allegations of groping made against McManus during his time with the Jaguars in 2023 according to The Times. The allegations came from two flight attendants on a Jaguars flight to London. The NFL has conducted its own investigation, and according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN, there was not sufficient evidence to discipline McManus. This gave the veteran kicker an opportunity to sign with another NFL franchise.
It will be interesting to see how McManus adjusts to the frozen tundra and cooler conditions of Lambeau Field. In his first decade in the NFL, McManus has had the opportunity to kick in Denver, where there is a high altitude for kickers, and the warmer weather conditions of Florida.
