Our three best tips for the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic

This is a time in the golf schedule, where women’s golf is at the forefront of the attention with their majors, as the Women’s PGA Championship was a week ago and the United States Women’s Open is next weekend. With summer starting and many making plans in the United States for Independence Day on Tuesday, there is one more golf tournament before the United States turns 247 years old. Here are the three golfers I like for Michigan’s Rocket Mortgage Classic.

Tony Finau

A year ago this Salt Lake City native not only won the Rocket Mortgage Classic, he dominated the field. Finau posted a score of -26 to beat Canadian Taylor Pendrith and Americans Patrick Cantlay and Cameron Young by five strokes. It was the second most dominant performance by a golfer in 2022. Only Ryan Brehm of Mount Pleasant, Michigan at the 2022 Puerto Rico Open, beat the second place golfer by a wider margin. Brehm had a score of -20, and beat Max McGreevy of Edmond, Oklahoma by six strokes.

Rickie Fowler

Over the last four tournaments, Rickie Fowler of Murrieta, California has simply been outstanding. He was sixth at the Charles Schwab Challenge, ninth at the Memorial Tournament, fifth at the United States Open, and 13th at the Travelers Championship. It was at the 2023 United States Open in Los Angeles where Fowler had centre stage. After the third round, Fowler was tied for the lead with the eventual champion, Wyndham Clark of Denver, Colorado.

Joo-Hyung Kim

This 21-year-old from South Korea is already 24th in the world in the Official World Golf Rankings. Known throughout the United States as Tom Kim, this fan favourite won twice on the PGA Tour in 2022. He was victorious at the Wyndham Championship and Shriners Hospital for Children Open. In 2023, Kim has three top eight performances. He was fifth at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Maui, sixth at the American Express, and eighth at the United States Open.
