Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 8/3
March 10, 2025

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s G1 Verry Elleegant Stakes day at Randwick. Our analyst has picked out a trio of runners headlined by an impressive Godolphin filly that looks a Slipper smokey.Â
Tempted
The Godolphin filly burst into Slipper contention with a really impressive win in the Reisling. After settling at the rear she produced a powerful finish to claim a 0.3L win. They ran 0.57 seconds quicker than the colts. I don’t want to be too carried away with the times as they did go at a hot tempo but it still has to be respected. The way the 2yo races have been run this season can leave us confident that we’ll get a hot tempo in the Slipper which brings her right into contention.
Uncommon James
I want to stick with the Queensland sprinter after he got a dream run outside the leader and travelled nicely looking the winner at the 200m before fading badly to finish 1.4L 4th. I think if Hoysted had his time again he would’ve given him one the 2nd trial heading into his 1st up attempt because it looked like condition was the issue the final 100m. He’s tough to place from here and they likely head to the G1 Galaxy in a fortnight but I’d love to see him lob in something slightly easier and kept fresh.
Another Wil
It was a tough watch up the Flemington straight after he got a soft run behind the leader but the run just didn’t present. He took a bad dip at the 200m but the way he picked himself up and charged to the line shows the making of a top notch horse. He likely sticks to a mile where some of the better horses will progress to 2000m.Â
