Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Randwick 24/8

The replays and sectional times have been reviewed from Saturday’s Randwick meeting and our analyst has found a filly that looks set for a great Princess Series after hitting the line strongly from a wide gate, a new Everest contender and a consistent mare that looks set for a nice prep aimed at sprint races.

Erno’s Cube

Kicked off her Princess Series with an eye catching 4th in the G2 Silver Shadow. Jumped well from the outside gate but was forced to settle last and was still there on the turn. She was able to get on the back of eventual winner Ameena and produced a powerful finish down the outside but couldn’t quite close the gap, finishing 0.6L away in 4th.

She looks to have furnished nicely as a 3yo and has to be considered in Princess Series races moving forward. She likely heads to the G2 Furious Stakes over the same course in a fortnight’s time where a decent gate would bring her right into consideration. The G2 Tea Rose over 1400m in a month looks a real target. She is currently $26 in TopSport’s G1 Flight Stakes (1600m) Future’s Market.

Joliestar

The most impressive winner of the meeting. Settled off midfield over 1200m and ambled up in 3rd gear before blowing them away the final 200m to win by 3L eased down. The clock backed up what the eye saw. Her final 600m was a blistering 32.71s and the overall time of 1.09.8 was significantly quicker than the other 3 1200m races on the day- 1.10.4, 1.10.6 and 1.10.1. The G2 Sheraco (1200m) at Rosehill in 3 weeks looks like a nice stepping stone. No doubt they’ll be targeting to gain an Everest slot where she has firmed into a $7 2nd favourite in TopSport’s Futures Market.

Kimochi

The Portelli mare looks to have returned in great order after a brave 0.3L victory in the G3 Toy Show Quality. She pinged the gates but couldn’t quite cross The Black Cloud and Dancing Alone and was forced to sit 3 wide on top of the speed. From there she was strong enough to hold off a fast finishing Commemorative. It’s also worth noting that she was the only winner on the day that settled inside the first 3.

Portelli signalled after the race that he would like her Yulong owners to use their Everest slot on her, which seemed ambitious. The Golden Eagle over 1400m looks a nice option.
