Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Flemington 4/1
January 13, 2025
Our analyst has looked over the times & replays from Saturday’s Flemington meeting and found four horses you must follow next start.
THEDOCTOROFLOVE
Relished the step up to 2000 metres with a strong run on performance to win the three-year-old running over the top of Sigiriya Rock. That pair finished well clear of their opposition. Thedoctoroflove was having only his third start. Natalie Young and Trent Busuttin know how to train a stayer and he’s got Derby candidate written all over him.
ELENA MONTARO/ MR MAGNUS
Impressive effort to finish second at only his fourth start. He was slow to begin and was always in a slightly awkward spot on the inside of horses. He produced the fastest last 200m of the day with 10.97 seconds closing split. In the same race Mr Magnus also wasn’t quite in the right spot. His last 400m of 21.35 seconds was the fastest for the meeting. He’s looking for 1200m.
CASTLE ON HIGH
Big drifter in the betting who didn’t begin well. He was never in a winning position being well back but he finished on nicely to finish fourth behind One Long Day. He will be hard to beat when he steps out to 2000 metres for his next start.
FLYING MIKKI
He’s becoming a regular in this column but eventually we should be rewarded. It was a nightmare watch for his supporters as he over-raced when the speed slackened in the first half of the race and then he was held up between the 500m and the 250m. Then in the final 50 metres he couldn’t get any galloping room. Despite this he was beaten 2.51 lengths in seventh placing. Stick with him as he’s racing well.
