Our Black Book: Horses You Must Follow From Flemington 13/5
May 16, 2023
Our form analyst has looked over the replays & sectional times from Flemington on Saturday and has placed his list of horses you must follow below.
CASTILLIAN
He should be ready to win after three runs back from a spell and a good fourth at Flemington over 1400m on Saturday behind Euphoric. He went back to last, he was held up early in the straight and then looked a winning chance before he died on his run. He also gave the placegetters between four and three kilos in weight. Next start over 1600m he will prove hard to beat.
SHAIYAR
RV Stewards reported he was slow to begin and he settled a clear last, a position he was still in as they entered the straight. He finished off nicely to run seventh, and he recorded the second fastest last 400m and 200m for the race only bettered by Altivo. Blake Shinn said he would be suited by a longer trip.

Great return from this under-rated galloper to finish fifth in the Straight Six behind It’sourtime. Between the 600m and the 400m he recorded a time of 10.56 seconds for that 200m which was the fastest for that split for the meeting. He also didn’t get a lot of clear galloping room over the closing stages. He also gave weight to the four horses who defeated him. He’ll be ready for 1400m at his next start.

GREEN FLY
Son of Frankel who sprinted home strongly to finish sixth behind King Magnus over 1400m in a display which suggests he’s looking for longer. He recorded the third fastest last 400m for the day of 23.7 seconds and the fourth fastest last 200m of 11.70 seconds.
AIRMAN
Strong win from this lightly raced galloper in a time which almost matched the Straight Six. He has a touch of class and he toyed with his rivals over the concluding stages. The Hawkes team are likely to chase another win or two to boost his ratings in the weeks to come.
