Opinion: Mohamed Sanu cannot blame Lady Gaga for losing Super Bowl LI
September 20, 2025

According to marca.com on Friday, wide receiver Mohamed Sanu of New Brunswick, New Jersey retired at the age of 36. Sanu played regular season games in 10 seasons in the National Football League from 2012 to 2021. He was with the Cincinnati Bengals for four seasons from 2012 to 2015, four seasons with the Atlanta Falcons from 2016 to 2019, one season with the New England Patriots in 2019, one season with the Detroit Lions in 2020, and two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers in 2020 and 2021.
Sanu had tried to make the Miami Dolphins in 2022, but did not make the team. He did not play in the 2023 and 2024 NFL regular seasons either. Sanu is now pursuing a career in podcasting.
In 136 NFL games, Sanu had 435 catches for 4871 receiving yards and 27 touchdown passes. He is also famous for one of the most hilarious excuses why a team lost the Super Bowl in Super Bowl history. In Super Bowl LI, the Patriots were trailing the Falcons 21-3 at half time. New England ended up winning the game by a score of 34-28 in one of the biggest collapses and most memorable moments in the Super Bowl ever.Â
What we saw was Tom Brady at his finest. However, Sanu was on the losing side with the Falcons. After the game, Sanu said the reason why the Falcons lost was because of the long half time show by Lady Gaga. The Patriots had more time to go over a game plan and get back into the contest than they normal do.
Where Sanu needs to put the blame are the Falcons. They were horrible offensively and defensively for the final 30 minutes of action and were the reasons why New England had the W.
