Opinion: CBS and FOX need to bring back in-game ticker for NFL games
October 23, 2025
NFL on CBS (X)
One of the biggest differences to the NFL season in 2025, has come with the television production in games. For the first time in about two decades, CBS and FOX have got rid of the ticker (also known as a tracker) at the bottom of the screen. CBS does update fans on occasion with the other scores in a bug in the top left of the screen, but it is simply not enough.
I simply dislike and actually hate the change. When I am watching the National Football League live on Sundays, I am all about information, and getting as much instant information as possible. In my first NFL game I ever went to a decade ago between the New England Patriots and Houston Texans at Gillette Stadium, my eyes were fixated on the stadium scoreboard, so I could find out what was going on throughout the league.
So why was the change made? I understand they are taking the attitude that simplicity is better.
NFL games are the only games I bet on regularly. I also participate in a weekly confidence pool, another pool where you pick all the games, a loser’s pool and a winner’s pool. Getting updates on what is happening throughout the league is vitally important.
However it is not just the scores I miss. I also miss the fantasy updates, information about who has had to leave the game due to injury, and where the football is for games that are not televised. I am actually watching websites now just as much on NFL Sunday as I am television screens. Please let me know what you think. Do you like the tracker or ticker? I have always strongly supported it and miss it big time!
