Okoro re-signs with Cavs on 3-year, $38M deal

Isaac Okoro will remain a Cleveland Cavalier having agreed to a three-year, $38 million contract with the franchise over the weekend, the team announced.
Okoro was drafted by the Cavs with the fifth pick in the 2020 NBA Draft after one year at Auburn.
He was named to the NBA’s All-Rookie 2nd Team in his first year in Cleveland starting in all 67 of the games in which he appeared in.
The 23-year-old is fresh off a year in which he averaged 9.4 ppg in 27.3 mpg but struggled to carve out a consistent role spending time as both a starter and bench player throughout the regular season and playoffs.
In an encouraging development for the Cavs, he shot a career-high 39.1 per cent from three albeit on just 3.1 nightly attempts.
Considered the team’s best wing defender, Okoro’s continued development may help determine their ceiling as they look to build off back-to-back postseason appearances.
It has proven a successful summer for the franchise who hired Kenny Atkinson to take over from J.B. Bickerstaff as head coach before agreeing to big-money extensions with Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen.
