NRL – Cronulla Sharks Under Investigations For Cap Breach In 2015 & 2017
August 29, 2018
The Cronulla Sharks have been dealt with a salary cap dark cloud over their head with finals week starting in a fortnight.
An article in the Daily Telegraph emerged outlining that the Sharks illegally gave more money to players in 2015 & 2017 than what they were contractually entitled to. Also reportedly breaching seven salary cap regulations.
It is alleged illegal payments were made through a club employee directly to the Sharks players involved.
Cronulla swiftly made a statement saying that they are aware of the matter, the discrepancy and they are under investigation by NRL’s integrity unit. They are also strongly adamant they’re working within the salary cap rules and are compliant.
CEO Barry Russell says:
“The discrepancies occurred under previous Club Management. This is a historical issue, we are currently salary cap compliant for the 2018 season having passed our mid-season salary cap review”
Cronulla made it clear that they will not make any more comments regarding the matter until the investigation is complete.
