Manly fadeout woes remain as Dolphins continue winning ways

An early, double-figure lead was not enough to propel the Sea Eagles over the Dolphins with Wayne Bennett’s men coming out on top 30-24 at Suncorp on Thursday night.

Manly leapt out a 16-4 lead less than a half-hour in courtesy of tries to Tommy Talau, Corey Waddell, and Toluta’u Koula before three Dolphins tries in the space of five minutes saw them surge ahead heading into the break.

A Tom Trbojevic try on the other side of the break curtailed the Dolphins’ momentum slightly before Jack Bostock put them ahead scoring what proved to be the match-winner.

Trbojevic left the field in the aftermath of the Bostock try with a hamstring issue that looks set to keep out of the entire State of Origin series.

Trai Fuller scored a brilliant try and ran for 155 metres with four tackle breaks whilst Mark Nicholls also managed a four-pointer to go along with 116 metres and 26 tackles without a miss.

Tom Trbojevic scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 125 metres whilst Luke Brooks assisted on a try and ran for 137 metres with five tackle breaks.

Panthers outlast Bulldogs in wet but lose Cleary

Another Nathan Cleary hamstring injury put a dampener on Penrith’s 16-10 win over a gutsy Bulldogs outfit at BlueBet Stadium on Friday evening.

The hosts jumped out to a 12-0 advantage courtesy of tries to Luke Garner and Brian To’o before Cleary was taken from the field just shy of the break.

The try-scoring dried up for a period in the second half before Matt Burton got the Bulldogs on the board and Jacob Kiraz crossed to set up a grandstand finish only for Cameron Ciraldo’s men to fall short in their comeback attempt.

Dylan Edwards ran for 254 metres with 10 tackle breaks and zero errors whilst To’o scored a try and ran for 198 metres with 11 tackle breaks.

Kiraz scored a try and ran for 236 metres with six tackle breaks whilst Matt Burton scored a try, assisted on a line break, and ran for 100 metres with six tackle breaks.

Broncos too strong for Eels at CommBank

The Broncos finished atop the Eels 30-14 at CommBank Stadium on Friday night behind a Deine Mariner double.

Brisbane took an 18-8 lead into the sheds thanks a Reece Walsh try and Mariner’s double with two of the three coming against the run of play.

Dylan Brown crossed in the opening minute of the second half to drag the hosts back in it only for back-to-back Ezra Mam and Selwyn Cobbo tries to seal it for the Broncos.

Mariner scored two and ran for a team-high 212 metres whilst Walsh scored one, assisted on another, and ran for 197 metres.

Rookie No.1 Blaize Talagi scored a try and ran for 215 metres whilst Brown scored a try and ran for 140 metres.

Knights take down Wests Tigers for 3rd-straight win

The Knights made it three wins from three games sans Kalyn Ponga downing the Wests Tigers 20-14 at Tamworth’s Scully Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Wests Tigers crossed first through Isaiah Papali’i before a Jahream Bula sin bin paved the way for Greg Marzhew to hit back for the Knights with Enari Tuala scoring on the stroke of halftime to put them ahead.

Rookie fullback David Armstrong extended their lead after the break before Papali’i’s second dragged the hosts back into only for Bradman Best to snatch what proved to be the match-winner 63 minutes in.

Best scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for a team-high 235 metres with 11 tackle breaks in a near-perfect Origin audition whilst Armstrong scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 173 metres.

Jahream Bula ran for 250 metres with six tackle breaks in just 70 minutes whilst Papali’i scored two tries, ran for 152 metres with eight tackle breaks and made 36 tackles.

Dragons back in winners circle as Souths struggles continue

South Sydney’s tough run continued on Saturday evening going down to the Dragons 28-14 at Kogarah.

Tries to Zac Lomax and Jack Bird saw the Dragons go up 10-6 before Lomax slotted his second two-point field goal of the season as the halftime siren sounded.

Izaac Tu’itupou Thompson crossed early in the second before back-to-back Dragons tries all but sealed their first win at Kogarah this season.

Jack de Belin scored a try, ran for a game-high 200 metres, and made 22 tackles without a miss whilst Jaydn Su’A scored a try, ran for 106 metres with four tackle breaks and made 34 tackles.

Latrell Mitchell scored two tries, assisted on a third, and ran for 116 metres with five tackle breaks whilst Tu’itupou Thompson scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 131 metres.

Sharks topple Storm in heavyweight bout

The Sharks have shot up to outright first having taken down the Storm 25-18 at AAMI Park on Saturday night.

Despite stars Ryan Papenhuyzen, Nicho Hynes, and Jahrome Hughes being unavailable, both teams put together a competitive game.

Tries to Eliesa Katoa and Reimis Smith saw the Storm go up 12-6 before a Harry Grant bin paved the way for Oregon Kaufusi to score his second try in as many weeks and tie things up.

Jesse Ramien was the next to score to put Cronulla ahead before Tyran Wishart crossed entering the final 10 to make it 18-all.

Daniel Atkinson’s 73rd-minute field goal put the Sharks back on top before Siosifa Talakai raced away to put the icing on the cake off the corresponding short kick-off.

Talakai scored a try and ran for a game-high 170 metres off the bench whilst Ramien scored a try and ran for 139 metres.

Wishart scored a try and ran for 125 metres with seven tackle breaks whilst Katoa scored a try and ran for 146 metres with four tackle breaks.

Red hot Roosters hand Warriors 4th loss in a row

An electric opening 12 minutes was enough to push the Roosters to a 38-18 win over the listing Warriors at Allianz Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Dom Young and Angus Crichton both crossed for doubles in the opening 12 minutes to make it 22-0 before you could blink.

The shellshocked Warriors were able to slow the flow of points as the game went on but the initial blow proved enough for the Roosters to race away with the win thanks to second half Daniel Tupou, James Tedesco, and Sam Walker tries.

Young scored two tries and ran for 254 metres with nine tackle breaks whilst Tedesco scored a try and ran for 172 metres with nine tackle breaks.

Addin Fonua-Blake scored a try and ran for 171 metres with nine tackle breaks whilst Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad scored a try and ran for 141 metres with eight tackle breaks.

Injury-plagued Titans survive Cowboys on Gold Coast

They may have finished without a player on the bench, but the Titans pulled off a brave 20-18 win against a fast-finishing Cowboys side at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts leapt out to a 20-0 lead with an hour to play courtesy of tries to Jojo Fifita, David Fifita, and AJ Brimson.

Phillip Sami, Kieran Foran, Brimson and Harley Smith-Shields all failed to finish the game due to injury.

A Jeremiah Nanai double followed by a Kyle Feldt try in the space of 17 minutes made for a nervous finish for the Titans, but Des Hasler’s men held on for their second victory of the year.

Beau Fermor ran for 180 metres and made 25 tackles without a miss whilst David Fifita scored a try, assisted on another, and ran for 121 metres with 11 tackle breaks.

Feldt scored a try and ran for 163 metres whilst Jason Taumalolo ran for 159 metres off the bench and made 26 tackles.
