Lamar Jackson Sets NFL Record For Most Rushing Yards By A Quarterback In A Single Season
December 14, 2019

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson of Pompano Beach, Florida set the National Football League record on Thursday for most rushing yards in a season by a quarterback. Jackson accomplished the feat on a five-yard run in the first half in a 42-21 win over the New York Jets. He now has 1103 rushing yards this season, which is 64 more yards than Michael Vick of the Atlanta Falcons earned in 2006 when he had 1039 yards. Vick and Jackson are the only two quarterbacks in NFL history with 1000 rushing yards in a single season.

Jackson ended the game leading Baltimore with 86 rushing yards on eight carries. However, it was Jackson’s proficient passing of the football to the end zone that once again deserved high praise. Jackson only had 212 yards passing from 15 pass completions in 23 attempts, however, he had five touchdown passes. That means one-third of his completions were touchdown passes.
Jackson also spread the football around. Five different Ravens had touchdown catches. They were Seth Roberts, Mark Andrews, Marquise Brown, Mark Ingram II and Miles Boykin. The Raven’s other touchdown was on a run by Ingram II.
Jackson not only leads all quarterbacks this season in rushing yards. He leads the NFL in touchdown passes too with 33. He has seven more touchdown passes than Jameis Winston of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks, who are second on the list with 26 touchdown passes.
Baltimore also clinched the AFC North. With a record of 12 wins and two losses, they can no longer be caught by the Pittsburgh Steelers, who hold down a wildcard spot at eight wins and five losses.
