J.J. Watt to sign blockbuster deal with the Arizona Cardinals

According to Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports on Monday, National Football League all-star defensive end J.J. Watt of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, will sign a two-year contract worth $31 million with the Arizona Cardinals. Watt had spent his entire 10-year NFL career with the Houston Texans before he was released on February 12.

Since joining the NFL in 2011, Watt has been the heart and soul of the Texans D. In 128 regular season games, he has had 531 tackles (409 solo tackles and 122 assisted tackles), 282 quarterback hits, 172 tackles for a loss, one safety, two interceptions for touchdowns of a combined total of 99 yards, 61 pass deflections, 25 forced fumbles, 101 sacks, and 16 fumble recoveries for 68 yards, and another major score.

A first-team All-Pro in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2018, Watt was selected to the Pro Bowl in those five years as well. He also has led the NFL in numerous defensive categories. They include most sacks in a season (20.5 in 2012 and 17.5 in 2015), most tackles for a loss in a season (39 in 2012, 29 in 2014, and 29 in 2015), and most forced fumbles in a season (seven in 2018). Part of the NFL’s All-Decade Team in the 2000s, Watt was the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

Watt also made gigantic contributions from a charitable perspective while with the Texans. In 2017, he helped raise $37 million to those who suffered from Hurricane Harvey. Due to his remarkable humanitarianism, Watt was named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year in 2017. He has also raised $1 million through his own charity, the Justin J. Watt Foundation, which provides after-school opportunities to kids in a safe environment.
