Five new NFL coordinators with head coaching experience

Since the National Football League regular season came to an end, there have been some significant changes made to the 32 coaching staffs. Here are five high profile coaches who have been named as a coordinator, who have head coaching experience.

Gus Bradley–The former head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013-16, was hired as the defensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders on January 12. He is replacing Paul Guenther. The Raiders gave up 478 points in 2020, the third most in the NFL. Only the Detroit Lions (519 points), and Jaguars (492 points) gave up more points.

Anthony Lynn–The former head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers (2017-2020) is now the offensive coordinator for the Lions. In Detroit, Lynn will be working with the newly acquired quarterback, Jared Goff, who was traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Lions for Matt Stafford on Saturday.

Raheem Morris–The former head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2009-2011) and interim head coach of the Atlanta Falcons (2020), is now the new defensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams were in need of a new coordinator when Brandon Staley was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers.

Dan Quinn–The former head coach of the Falcons (2015-2020) is now the new defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys. Dallas will be hoping Quinn does a better job coaching defense than he did during Super Bowl LI, when the Falcons blew a 28-3 lead and lost 34-28 to the New England Patriots.

Lovie Smith–The former head coach of the Chicago Bears (2004-2012), and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2014-2015), is now the defensive coordinator of the Houston Texans. Like Quinn, Smith has been to the Super Bowl and lost. In the 2007 Super Bowl, the Bears lost 29-17 to the Indianapolis Colts.
