Chiefs sign Melvin Gordon to their practice squad
December 1, 2022
According to the Associated Press on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs have signed running back Melvin Gordon of Kenosha, Wisconsin to their practice squad. He was waived by the Denver Broncos on November 21.
So far this season in Denver, Gordon has rushed 90 times for 318 yards and two touchdowns. He also has 25 catches for 223 yards. Gordon’s touchdowns came in a 11-10 Broncos win over the San Francisco 49ers on September 25, and in a 21-17 Broncos win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 30. The touchdown against the Jaguars was at the National Football League game at England’s Wembley Stadium.
Currently, the Chiefs have three running backs on their depth chart. The leader at the moment is rookie Isiah Pacheco of Vineland, New Jersey, who has 455 yards rushing in 11 games in 2022. Veteran Jerick McKinnon of Atlanta, Georgia is second on the depth chart with 149 yards rushing. He is followed by Ronald Jones II of Fort Stewart, Georgia, who has 12 yards rushing.
Heading into the season, Clyde Edwards-Helaire of Baton Rouge, Louisiana was expected to be the Chargers’ number one, but he is currently on the injury reserve with an ankle injury. In 10 games so far, Edwards-Helaire has had 71 rushes for 302 yards and three touchdowns, along with 17 catches for 151 yards and a career-high three receiving touchdowns.

Gordon has eight seasons in the NFL. He has been with the Chargers and Broncos, and was selected to the Pro Bowl twice–once with the San Diego Chargers in 2016, and the other with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2018.
Let’s not kid ourselves. The reason why the Chiefs have the best record in the AFC at 9-2 is not because of their running game. It is because they have quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the most electrifying player in the game today.
