Chiefs sign controversial wide receiver Josh Gordon

The Kansas City Chiefs have signed controversial wide receiver Josh Gordon of Houston, Texas according to ESPN on Monday. The reason why this signing by the Chiefs is controversial is because Gordon has been suspended five times in his career for violating the National Football League’s substance abuse policy.

Gordon is expected to be the Chiefs’ number two wide receiver to compliment Tyreek Hill of Pearson, Georgia. Kansas City is hoping Gordon can replace Sammy Watkins of Fort Myers, Florida, who signed with the Baltimore Ravens in the offseason to a one-year deal worth $5 million.

The Chiefs become Gordon’s fourth National Football League. He has previously played for the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns. While with the Browns, Gordon missed the entire 2015 and 2016 NFL seasons for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

There is no doubt that Kansas City hopes they get the Josh Gordon that was the best wide receiver in the NFL during the 2013 season. That year Gordon led the NFL with 1646 receiving yards.

Gordon has not played in the NFL since 2019. That year he shared his time with the Patriots and Seahawks. He had 27 catches for 426 yards and one touchdown in 11 games. In his career, Gordon has 247 catches for 4252 yards and 20 touchdowns in 63 games. It is the fact that Gordon averages a receiving touchdown in just over three games is what should excite Chiefs fans.

Kansas City has got off to a sluggish start to the season. They are only 1-2 after losses to the Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers.
