Josh Gordon Officially Joins The Seattle Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks now have another potential threat to their prolific offense. After claiming wide receiver Josh Gordon of Houston, Texas off waivers from the New England Patriots on Friday, the Seahawks announced on Monday that Gordon had passed his physical. Gordon is now able to suit up for the Seahawks in their Monday night battle against the undefeated San Francisco 49ers on November 11, which will highlight the week 10 schedule.

Gordon has only had 20 catches for 287 yards and one touchdown in 2019. Gordon’s major score came in a 33-3 Patriots blowout win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on the opening Sunday night of the 2019 National Football League regular season. Interestingly, the 20-yard touchdown pass from Tom Brady was New England’s first touchdown of the season. Then in week three, Gordon had six catches for 83 yards in a 30-14 Patriots win over the New York Jets on September 22.

There is no doubt that Gordon is a talent. However, there have been issues with the star wideout. First in college, he was suspended by Baylor for failing a drug test and testing positive for marijuana. There he transferred to the University of Utah, but never played for the Utes because he declared for the 2011 NFL Supplemental Draft. Here, he was taken by the Cleveland Browns.

With the Browns, there were more problems. He missed the entire 2015 and 2016 NFL seasons for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

The Seahawks will hope Gordon adds offensive skill and another viable option for quarterback Russell Wilson. If Seattle hopes to challenge San Francisco for first in the NFC West, they will need another viable wideout option to take some of the pressure off Tyler Lockett, who has simply been sensational in 2019.
